Safelight Quilt and In the Garden from From My Carolina Home

This is another busy week with not a lot of sewing going on. Last night I had the pleasure of speaking on Zoom to the Charlotte Modern Quilt Guild with my Well Loved Quilt Repair program, booked by fellow blogger Emily from Darling Dogwood. Such fun, and they had great questions! In the sewing room, I finished up the quilt repair and it is ready to be picked up, but I didn’t do any more pictures. Yesterday, I had lunch with my longarm friend, Chryste, and picked up this quilt for Safelight. She was helping with the quilting for ...

Sewing and Stamping from From My Carolina Home

What fun we had yesterday, sewing and chatting on Zoom. Thank you to all who were able to come. I really needed some quilty fun and I enjoyed the day a lot. I got a fair amount done, too. I removed sleeves from two quilts, and made a permanent sleeve for my Twinkle Twinkle Pumpkin Star quilt. This is the one that was published in Quilts and More Magazine under the name of Evening Harvest. I want to show it at our guild’s show in May, so it needs a good sleeve. I made the sleeve from the same ...

Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

We were housebound for four days this past week, which meant a lot of projects were either finished or new ones begun. A few Zoom calls took up a bit of time, and I got a bit more progress on the epic historical novel I’m currently reading. Just before the snow started, I got this photo of Oliver on the retaining wall, and noticed my daffodils are coming up way too early! It was so warm before the snow, they are confused. I think they’ll be OK, daffodils can take the cold.

On the feeder, a huge pileated ...

One More Safelight Quilt from From My Carolina Home

This week has seen a bit more sewing than usual, which has been nice for a change. I worked on the next Safelight quilt, and got it mostly done. The blocks I had left were all kinds of themes and colors, but the beauty of this block is all work well together. I put my cardboard grid on the longarm to use as a design board, and placed the blocks on it. I like this Bargello setting the best. If you are new to the blog, here is a link to the download for the block and some setting ideas ...

Finishing the Rainbow Quilt from From My Carolina Home

When I left off showing this rainbow quilt for Safelight, I had the top assembled and ready to go on the longarm. Every one of these blocks was sent in by readers. Thank you for your support of this project.

So, now I need a backing. I had this fabulous shooting star fabric, and I cannot remember where it came from. I know I had it to possibly use with a Quilt of Valor, but the color of the stars was never right for a red, white and blue quilt. The stars are more pink, turquoise and purple, and never ...

All Those Last Minute Details from From My Carolina Home

Wow, it is just a few days to Christmas, where has this year gone? December comes in with such anticipation, and then I run out of time. Thankfully, the decorating is much simpler now, with carloads going to the thrift store and not having every horizontal surface in the house covered in Christmas. I finished all my shopping last week with a frantic day of figuring out a different gift for My Sweet Babboo when the one I ordered looked like it wasn’t ever going to come. The company won’t answer emails, or respond to contact forms, and ...

In the Sewing Room This Week from From My Carolina Home

In the sewing room, I am making some progress on the quilt projects in progress. My friend Kathleen returned the quilt that she quilted and I needed to add the binding to finish it. With all the colors in the quilt top, I decided on a yellow tone on tone for the binding. Putting it on by machine made the most sense right now. So, I made the binding, and stitched it to the back. Then I turned it to the front and top stitched the edge. In this closeup, you can see Kathleen’s excellent freehand quilting, with squiggles ...
